With just a few days to go until the Cannes Film Festival’s first ever Online Marché du Film (unspooling 22-26 June), French international sales agency Luxbox, led by Fiorella Moretti and Hédi Zardi, is preparing to negotiate on behalf of the eight titles in its eye-catching line-up, which includes two feature films earmarked for the Cannes 73 Official Selection: Spring Blossom [+leggi anche:

Spring Blossom is the first feature film to come courtesy of Suzanne Lindon (the daughter of Vincent Lindon and Sandrine Kiberlain), who wrote the screenplay and also stars in the cast, which further comprises Arnaud Valois (nominated Best New Hope at the 2018 Césars for BPM (Beats Per Minute [+leggi anche:

scheda film]), Florence Viala, Frédéric Pierrot and Rebecca Marder. The story centres around sixteen-year-old Suzanne. People her own age bore her. Every day, on her way to high school, she passes a theatre. There, she meets an older man who become obsessed with her. Despite their age difference, they find in one other an answer to their ennui and fall in love. But Suzanne is afraid she’s missing out on the life of a 16-year-old which she had struggled so much to enjoy in the same way as her peers… Produced by Caroline Bonmarchand for Avenue B Productions, chiefly with the support of the Ile-de-France region, the film enjoys the musical compositions of Vincent Delerm. It will be released in France on 9 December by way of Paname Distribution.
The other Luxbox title granted Cannes’ Official Selection Label is In The Dusk by Sharunas Bartas, who’s a familiar face at the larger festivals (competing in Venice in 2000, in Cannes’ Un Certain Regard section in 1996 and 1997, in its Directors’ Fortnight line-up in 2005, 2015 and 2017, and in the Berlinale Forum in 1992 and 2010). The story plunges us into Lithuania in 1948. The war is over, but the country is left in ruins. Nineteen-year-old Untė is a member of the Partisan movement resisting Soviet occupation. The two sides aren’t fighting on equal terms, but this desperate struggle will determine the future of the whole population. At an age where he is discovering life, Untė will also be confronted with violence and betrayal. The lines are blurred between the burning passion of his youth and the cause for which he is fighting. He is ready to commit himself to the full, at the risk of losing his innocence and his life... Production is helmed by Lithuanian group Studija Kinema and French firm KinoElektron in co-production with Sirena Films (Czech Republic), Biberche Productions (Serbia), Mistrus Media (Latvia) and Terratreme Filmes (Portugal).
Luxbox will also be kicking off pre-sales on Joachim Lafosse’s The Restless [+leggi anche:

scheda film], starring Leïla Bekhti and Damien Bonnard, on which filming is set to commence in July and which Cineuropa will return to in more detail at a later date. The film is produced by Belgian outfit Stenola Productions and their compatriots at Prime Time, alongside French firm KG Productions and Luxemburger group Samsa Film.
There are four other first feature films stealing focus in the line-up: in post-production, we find Moon, 66 Questions [+leggi anche:

scheda film] by Greece’s Jacqueline Lentzou (steered by Blonde and co-produced by Luxbox), while in production we find Anatolian Leopard by Turkey’s Emre Kayis (bringing together Turkey, Denmark, Germany and Poland in the form of TatoFilm, Asteros Film, Adomeit Film, Elemag Film, Donten & Lacroix Films and Büke Aksehirli), Toll by Brazilian filmmaker Carolina Markowicz (produced by her fellow-countrymen and women at Biônica Filmes alongside Portuguese outfit O Som e a Fúria) and black comedy Martinez by Mexico’s Lorena Padilla (co-produced by Luxbox).
A final film in production worth a mention is Eureka by Argentine director Lisandro Alonso, which unites the likes of France, Portugal, Germany, Mexico and Argentina via Luxbox, Rosa Filmes, Komplizen, Woo Films and 4L.
