tucker green has adapted and reimagined ear for eye, her highly acclaimed 2018 stage production at the Royal Court Theatre, for the screen. The Guardian review of the play stated: “[ear for eye] is driven by anger at racial injustice. The cumulative impact is overwhelming as tucker green explores the subject’s present practice and historic roots… It left me shocked and stirred at its evidence of palpable injustice.”

ear for eye follows British and American black characters from different generations navigating their way through today’s society, offering a timely and critical perspective on the state of the nation. Demonstrations versus direct action, violence versus non-violence, personal versus structural. The play dealt with police racism and the discomfort of living in a society that is essentially hostile. It addresses mass shootings in America and tackles toxic masculinity. Lynch, who also appeared in the stage version, will reprise her role. The play also had a cinematic element, as it included short films of white Americans and British people reading out racist laws enacted by the Americans and British.

There are plans for a multi-platform release in early 2021, followed by a UK broadcast premiere on BBC Two in spring of that year. ear for eye, which was awarded National Lottery funds from the BFI, is being produced by Lamptey for Fruit Tree Media. Lamptey was recently director of UK Features for Netflix. The executive producers are Rose Garnett for BBC Films, Farhana Bhula for the BFI, Barbara Broccoli for Eon Productions and debbie tucker green.
