Stanislavs Tokalovs' sophomore feature, Lovable, is now in post-production. It follows the helmer's debut, What Nobody Can See, a psychological drama with elements of science fiction, produced by Ego Media and released in 2017.
The story, penned by Tokalovs in tandem with Waldemar Kalinowski, revolves around a young man called Matīss (played by Kārlis Arnolds Avots), who has difficulty forming relationships based on love and trust. Only when he has to take care of a little girl called Paula (Paula Labāne) does he become more sensitive and responsive to the world around him. Alongside Avots and young Labāne, the main cast members are Kristīne Krūze Hermane, Vilis Daudziņš, Andris Keišs, Gundars Āboliņš, Elīna Vaska and Regnārs Vaivars. Romanian DoP Oleg Mutu (Parquet, Unidentified [+leggi anche:

The movie was developed through the ACE Producers Workshop and the ScripTeast project development programme. Moreover, it recently took part in the 2020 Baltic Event Works in Progress organised by the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival. Filming started in Riga on 4 August and wrapped on 9 September.
Lovable is being produced by Aija Bērziņa for Latvia's Tasse Film and co-produced by Evelin Penttila for Estonia's Stellar Films. The project received a financial contribution from the National Film Centre of Latvia, the country's film agency. Other backers include the Estonian Film Institute, the Ministry of Culture of Latvia, the Cultural Endowment of Estonia (Eesti Kultuurkapital) and the Creative Europe - MEDIA programme. It will be ready for release at the end of next year.
