The 16th Summer School in Cinema, Human Rights and Advocacy is a training initiative, jointly developed by the Global Campus of Human Rights and Picture People, set to take place from 30 August to 8 September 2021.

This year, the Summer School's programme will be delivered in a hybrid format including online and in physical sessions at the Venice's Lido, Italy, both at the Global Campus and the Venice International Film Festival venues.

In detail, the Summer School will offer an exciting programme of lectures, film screenings, discussions, working groups as well as a storytelling workshop combining human rights expertise, media studies and video advocacy strategies.

As part of the programme, participants are required to watch and analyse a selection of human rights-related screenings at the 78th Venice International Film Festival. Whenever possible, filmmakers, jury members and critics will be invited to discuss their work with the Summer School participants. Participants will be given a Cinema category accreditation pass to access a selection of festival screenings.

This year’s programme will focus on “delivering social change to children and youth” in the broader framework of human rights protection and promotion.

The faculty hosts internationally acclaimed experts in film, television, photography and human rights working under the coordination of the two programme directors Nick Danziger, photographer and filmmaker, and Claudia Modonesi, human rights expert and media trainer.

Graduates, professionals of the human rights, media, NGO, advocacy and the third sector and anyone who uses or is interested in using audiovisual media as a tool for promoting social change are encouraged to apply.

The call is open until 20 June - click here to apply. For further information, contact chra@gchumanrights.org or visit https://gchumanrights.org/chra.
