At the close of an edition unspooling in two stages (held online for professionals in January, and in cinemas in Biarritz from 12 to 17 June for the general public), the 3rd FIPADOC (refocused exclusively on documentaries after 31 editions promoting generalist audiovisual production) has announced its victors for 2021.
The International Competition jury (composed of Danish director Eva Mulvad, her Italian counterpart Stefano Savona and American producer Thom Powers) crowned as its champion The Mole Agent [+leggi anche:

scheda film] by Maite Alberdi (a co-production uniting the likes of Chile, the Netherlands, the USA, Spain and Germany), which can now add yet another trophy to its impressive crop of awards (which includes San Sebastián’s Audience Award for Best European Film and a nomination for this year’s Best Documentary Oscar).
The national competition was won by Claus Drexel’s Ladies of the Wood [+leggi anche:
scheda film], which is produced by Daisy Day Films and will be distributed in France this autumn by Nour Films. Sold worldwide by The Party Films Sales, this sociological, humanist, and intimate documentary lends a voice to transsexual sex workers in the Bois de Boulogne.
As for the two prizes associated with the Impact competition, both of these were snaffled by Czech director Jindřich Andrš’ A New Shift [+leggi anche:
scheda film], whilst the accolade for Women in Media (awarded to the best French woman director) went to Sabrina Van Tassel for The State of Texas v. Melissa [+leggi anche:
scheda film] (due for French release on 15 September via Alba Films) and the Audience Award (pertaining to the Panorama of French Documentaries line-up) was handed to 7 Billion Suspects: The Surveillance Society by Sylvain Louvet and Ludo G. (a Capa Presse production sold by Newen Connect).
