For the sixth consecutive year, the Beyond Borders International Documentary Festival will take place on the idyllic island of Kastellorizo on the edge of the Aegean Sea, from 22 to 29 August. Once a year, Beyond Borders offers European, Mediterranean and overseas audiences a collection of compelling films dealing with historical, cross-cultural events, trends and personalities that have shaped our countries, peoples and civilisations, focusing on history and society. The festival is organised by the Hellenic History Foundation (IDISME), in partnership with the Region of South Aegean and internationally supported by the Paris-based association Ecrans des Mondes.

A five-member international jury will decide on the winners of this edition. Chaired by Klaus Eder, general secretary of the International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI), it also comprises Marianna Economou, president of the Greek Documentary Association; Jean-Christoph Caron; head of PHOENIX; Bruno Chatelin, festival agent; and filmmaker Maro Anastopoulou.

The jury will award the following prizes: Best History Documentary, Best Socio-political Documentary, Best Short Length Documentary — all of them supported by the Hellenic Parliament, Best Greek Documentary, sponsored by the Greek Film Centre (GFC), the Special Award of Mediterranean Friendship by the National Centre of Audiovisual Media and Communication (EKOME) and the Special Award of Odyssey courtesy of the General Secretariat of Greeks Abroad and Public Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The 6th Beyond Borders International Documentary Festival will be held under the patronage of H.E. the President of the Hellenic Republic Ms. Katerina Sakellaropoulou. The Festival is supported by the Hellenic Parliament, the General Secretariat for Greeks Abroad and Public Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Municipality of Megisti, the Embassies of Australia, U.S., Federal Republic of Germany Athens, Cyprus, Czech Republic and Israel in Athens. The main sponsors are the Ministry of Culture, the Secretariat General for the Aegean and Island Policy, EKOME and the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation.
