Kids Kino Lab, the international script development workshop for scriptwriters and producers of films and series for young audiences, is nearing its final session and has already opened the call for projects for the next edition, with a deadline set for 15 October. The application form can be found here.

The workshops of the Kids Kino Lab started at the beginning of 2021 at the JEF Festival and were followed by online sessions organised in cooperation with the Film Centre of Montenegro and the Zlín Film Festival. During an intensive nine-month period, 12 teams consisting of scriptwriters and producers from Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, France, Latvia, Montenegro and Poland have been developing their projects from a short synopsis to an advanced draft of the script, together with covering production basics (estimated budget, financing and promotion plan).

The group and individual work took place under the supervision of Kids Kino Lab tutors Kirsten Bonnén Rask, Armin Prediger, Philip LaZebnik (script tutors) and Ronald Kruschak (producers’ tutor). Furthermore, the programme was enriched by sessions with invited guests and experts from the fields of scriptwriting, distribution, sales and many others. The full list is available on the Kids Kino Lab website.

The final stop of the lab is scheduled for Kids Kino Industry, a co-production forum where the participants will present their projects in front of decision makers and attendees of the event, alongside the 25 other projects at different stages selected for this year’s forum (see the news). They will also have the possibility to book one-on-one meetings, find partners and get professional feedback as well as gaining experience in pitching and selling their projects. This could also represent the next step from the script development phase to the pre-production stage.

It’s worth mentioning that Let’s Go, Grandpa!, which was developed at Kids Kino Lab in 2020 and was given the Audiovisual Technology Center Award at Kids Kino Industry last year, is now finalising its development stage. The creators behind it are scriptwriter Emil Płoszajski and producer Karolina Galuba (Furia Film). The film has also received development support from the Polish Film Institute, and director Jan Hryniak and cinematographer Bartosz Bieniek are on board.

During the Kids Kino Industry forum, the Kids Kino Lab tutors will be available for consultations during the Consultants’ Tables, with each consultation lasting up to 45 minutes. Scriptwriters and producers with a project for films or series for young audiences are welcome to book a session with Kids Kino Lab tutors and get their feedback on the potential of the projects as well as find out more about how developing the project within the programme can help them turn their idea into an advanced draft. All of the details can be found on Kids Kino Industry website.
