Beldocs in Progress, the pitching section of the Belgrade International Documentary Film Festival Beldocs (9-16 September), drew to a close on Wednesday night with an awards ceremony that saw the Ukrainian project Fragments of Ice, directed by Maria Stoianova, and produced by Alina Gorlova and Maksym Nakonechnyi for Kyiv-based Tabor, win the top prize in the international section.

In her first feature-length film, the director uses the VHS footage that her father, a figure skater, filmed on his travels between 1986 and 1994 across five continents. Exploring his shifting visions of an imaginary paradise, she creates a journey that focuses on growing up – and this applies to society, the father and the daughter. The project previously took part in many development programmes and markets, including IDFAcademy, DOK Leipzig Co-Pro Market and Eurodoc.

In the Serbian Docs in Progress section, the Beldocs Industry Award went to Boro-Ramiz by debuting director-producer Ana Dragić. In the documentary, the young, Belgrade-based filmmaker engages in dialogue with several generations of Kosovo Albanians, in a quest to map the story and preserve the memories of the iconic Palace of Youth and Sports in Prishtina, formerly named "Boro and Ramiz", after World War II partisans. In the same section, the DOKSrbija Encouragement Award was handed to Milica Djenić's Tales of the Plum Spirit.

In International Beldocs in Progress, Ukrainian director Zhanna Maksymenko-Dovhych's Peace for Nina received the Documentary Association of Europe Award, while Lithuania's Arturas Jevdokimovas bagged the Pitch the Doc Award for Life and Death of the Christmas Tree.

The East Silver Caravan Award went to Ironman by Kiril Karakash and Svetislav Podleshanov from North Macedonia, while Montenegro's Sara Stijović received the Thessaloniki Documentary Festival Award for Gina.
