) from Anne-Isabelle Lacassagne’s novel Des femmes en noir, the story begins when an old priest passes away and those in charge of his diocese discover that he was actually a woman. She had carried out her vocation for years without anyone suspecting a thing. Appalled, the bishop decides to launch an investigation and puts his chancellor in charge of finding out how, why and with what complicity such deception was possible…

Produced by Bruno Lévy on behalf of Move Movie with co-production outsourced to Terence Films, Magnificat has been pre-purchased by OCS and benefits from an advance on receipts from the CNC, as well as support from the Ile-de-France region (where almost all of the film was shot, apart from a brief foray into the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, with Noémie Gillot at the wheel of photography). Distribution in France and international sales will both be steered by Orange Studio.

For the record, other works in post-production with Move Movie include Tom by Fabienne Berthaud (produced with Rhamsa Production – read our news), Le torrent by Anne Le Ny and Le médecin imaginaire by Ahmed Hamidi (to be released in France on 27 April 2022).
