Having kicked off on 21 October, tomorrow will mark the final day of filming on Virginie Sauveur’s first feature-length movie Magnificat. Karin Viard’s name dazzles in the cast (awarded the Best Actress trophy at the Césars in 2000 and the Best Supporting Actress prize in 2003 and 2019, as well as various other nominations; recently well-received in Appearances [+leggi anche:

) from Anne-Isabelle Lacassagne’s novel Des femmes en noir, the story begins when an old priest passes away and those in charge of his diocese discover that he was actually a woman. She had carried out her vocation for years without anyone suspecting a thing. Appalled, the bishop decides to launch an investigation and puts his chancellor in charge of finding out how, why and with what complicity such deception was possible…

Produced by Bruno Lévy on behalf of Move Movie with co-production outsourced to Terence Films, Magnificat has been pre-purchased by OCS and benefits from an advance on receipts from the CNC, as well as support from the Ile-de-France region (where almost all of the film was shot, apart from a brief foray into the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, with Noémie Gillot at the wheel of photography). Distribution in France and international sales will both be steered by Orange Studio.
