Two completed feature films stand out in the line-up from NFI World Sales, the international sales team of the NFI (National Film Institute Hungary), directed by Klaudia Androsovits, at the European Film Market (online from 10 to 17 February) of the 72nd Berlinale.

Winner of the Oscar for Best Short Film in 2017 with Sing, Kristóf Deák has made the leap to feature filmmaking with The Grandson, which began a beautiful journey in local Hungarian cinemas last month. Starring Gergely Blahó, Tamás Jordán, Gábor Jászberényi, Judit Pogány, Laura Döbrösi, Judit Bárdos and János Papp, the film (written by the director) centres on Rudi and his grandfather, who share a special bond extending well into adulthood. When Grandpa falls victim to an especially heartless scam that breaks his spirit and his health, Rudi (usually a polite and quiet office hand) decides he’s not going to let the petty criminals get away with it. But in order to get close to them, he needs to step far out of his comfort zone and turn into a different person… Produced by Tamás S. Zákonyi for Flashback Media, this thriller bringing together coming-of-age tale, revenge story and dark humour, has benefitted from the talent of cinematographer Róbert Maly (Preparations to Be Together for an Unknown Period of Time [+leggi anche:

At the EFM, NFI World Sales will also be selling the romantic comedy Christmas Flame by Dániel Tiszeker (read the article), which came out in Hungarian cinemas last November and was the most successful Hungarian film at the 2021 local box office.
