Five projects have been selected during the first 2022 session of the CNC’s third advance on receipts committee (for fourth feature films onwards).

Standing tall among them is La lune crevée, which will be the 28th fiction feature film by Philippe Garrel who has been selected to compete six times in Venice (scooping the Silver Lion in 1991 and 2005), once in Berlin (with The Salt of Tears [+leggi anche:

in 2017, to name just two). This latest opus of his will star his own three children for the very first time: Louis, Esther and Léna Garrel. Written by the director alongside Jean-Claude Carrière, Arlette Langmann and Caroline Deruas, the story charts the fantastic yet tragic destiny of three puppet artist siblings. The cast also stars Aurélien Recoing, Damien Mongin, Francine Bergé, Mathilde Weil and Asma Messaoudene. Steered by Rectangle Productions together with Swiss firm Close Up Films, the project is further supported by Arte France Cinéma.

This will be the former’s 4th feature film after Mes Fantômes (screened in Locarno’s Cinéastes du Présent section in 2001), Do It Right [+leggi anche:

(unveiled on Locarno’s Piazza Grande in 2019, scooping the Best Screenplay Lumière and the Best Adapted Screenplay César in 2021). Production is entrusted to Petit Film.

Last but not least, two documentary projects jostle among the lucky few awarded an advance on receipts: Ricardo et la peinture by Barbet Schroeder (produced by Charles Gillibert on behalf of Les Films du Losange) and Les Vieux by Claus Drexel (shortlisted for the Louis-Delluc Prize in 2014 thanks to Au bord du monde [+leggi anche:
