The Márgenes International Film Festival is holding its 12th edition between 22 and 27 November in Madrid, adding an international scope to its programme: in line with this, French filmmaker Alain Guiraudie (whose recent Nobody’s Hero [+leggi anche:

will get an airing) will be the first non-Ibero-American auteur to receive the Márgenes Special Award at the opening ceremony, where the 2022 Márgenes Futura Award will also be handed to Elena López Riera (El agua [+leggi anche:

). This prize acknowledges the talents of a rising star of Spanish film who has demonstrated a high degree of talent and originality (furthermore, the short films made by both auteurs can be seen, free of charge, on the festival’s website).

It’s also worth pointing out that Márgenes includes a number of performance sessions perched at the crossroads between sound art and visual art, by names of the calibre of musician Artur M Puga, visual artist ShoegMyriam BleauAlex AugierHoly OtherPedro Maia and Enrique del Castillo.

Last but not least, MRGente is the section dedicated to new talents, training the spotlight on Spanish artists. This selection combines screenings of finished works, films in progress and presentations of audiovisual projects of an experimental nature, as well as works linked to other visual arts that were not initially intended to be shown in a movie theatre.
