Last weekend saw the closing of the seventh Ibizacinefest - International Independent Film Festival of Ibiza (17-26 February) with the announcement of its winners. I am Chance [+leggi anche:

, by the Belgium Marc-Henri Wajnberg, won the Audience Award, a selection which can be seen on the Filmin platform; the documentary filmed in Kinshasa (Republic of Congo) portrays the microcosm of a group of street girls.

The Critics' Award for Best Film went to the Canadian film Noémie dit oui, Genevievè Albert's approach to the world of prostitution. The Critics’ Award for Best Documentary went to Rafiki Fariala’s We Students [+leggi anche:

, set in the Central African Republic.

Beyond the feature films, the Best National Short Film went to Alegrías Riojanas, an unclassifiable new escapade by Velasco Broca, a prequel to his future first feature film El futuro testamento, while the Special Mention for Best National Short Film went to Olores, by Alba Esquinas, and a second mention to Las visitantes, by Enrique Buleo from La Mancha, recently awarded in Clermont Ferrand (read more).

The AC Ibizacinefest Special Award for Best National Feature Film went to La mala familia [+leggi anche:

, by Nacho A. Villar and Luis Rojo; the FemCine trophy went to the Spanish non-fiction short film Why, by Natxo Leuza; the ConUnPack Distribution Award went to Noèmie dit oui; and the Ibiza Script Festival Award went to Mi casa hostil, by Ainhoa Bolaños and Sílvia Espín.

Among the activities held over the past few days, the talk given by Antonio Saura, director of the sales agency Latido Films, was noteworthy as he spoke on the present and future of European cinema. Catalan filmmaker Neús Ballús also came to the island to talk about different techniques for directing non-actors to help create a safe and comfortable atmosphere on set, as she has demonstrated in her feature films The Plague [+leggi anche:

And together with Severiano Casalderrey,  titles such as La naranja prohibida were screened: the author of the FICBUEU books (read more) reviewed the role of the first film schools as the start of a new generation of revolutionary filmmakers, who reformed the seventh art during Franco's dictatorship.

The non-fiction film La mala familia, which was screened a few weeks ago at the Rotterdam festival and at the last Seville festival, brought the festival to a close and will continue to develop its film education and audience activities throughout the year.
