There was a huge turnout yesterday at the Series Mania Forum, the professional section of the Series Mania Festival, for the presentation by Disney+ of its line-up of French productions by Pauline Dauvin (vice-president, Programming, Original Productions and Acquisitions at The Walt Disney Company France), flanked by the two creators and showrunners Camille de Castelnau and Clémence-Madeleine Perdrillat. After the arrival last year of the platform's first original French content, six new productions have been launched for 2023. "We are not pursuing a volume policy, but a balance between genres (documentary, fantasy, romantic comedy, action, drama, melodrama, comedy) and between formats around an editorial pillar: great stories centred on shared characters and emotions, in other words, to entertain, move and inspire," emphasised Pauline Dauvin.

The line-up includes Les enfants sont rois, an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Delphine Le Vigan, which will start filming in France shortly, a story about a mother who films her children all day and posts videos on YouTube until the day her daughter is kidnapped. A series produced by Habanita Federation.

With its cast including Virginie Efira, Sara Giraudeau, and Nicole Garcia supported by Aliocha Schneider, Bernard Le Coq, Yannik Landrein, Eduardo Noriega, Mehdi Nebbou and Angèle Romeo, the drama series Tout va bien (8x52') is now in post-production. Written by Camille de Castelnau with Gaëlle Bellan, Benjamin Adam and Christophe Régin, it follows the daily life of an ordinary, and therefore necessarily neurotic and conflicted, family confronted with a tragedy (the serious illness of one of its children) that impacts the lives of each of its members, particularly two generations of women. The production is led by Maui Entertainment and Fédération Entertainment with co-production by Petit Ermitage Production. The first two episodes were directed by Éric Rochant and the following ones by Xavier Legrand, Cathy Verney and Audrey Estrougo.

With exclusive images brought to the Series Mania Forum of costume tests for Daniel Brühl and Théodore Pellerin, playing the two main protagonists of the Kaiser Karl series currently being filmed, the Disney+ team has teased a very tantalising project tracing the rise of Karl Lagerfeld, the most mysterious of fashion designers, who would nevertheless become the most publicised personality in the industry. Adapted from the book of the same name by Raphaëlle Bacqué (credited as creator with Jennifer Have and Isaure Pisani-Ferry, the latter having directed the writing and co-written all the scripts with Dominique Baumard, Jennifer Have and Nathalie Hertzberg), the series also features Arnaud Valois, Alex Lutz and Agnès Jaoui. The costumes were designed by Pascaline Chavanne, the sets by Jean Rabasse and the music will be composed by Evgueni and Sacha Galperine. Directed by Jérôme Salle and Audrey Estrougo, Kaiser Karl is produced by Gaumont.

Also in post-production is the romantic comedy Irrésistible (6x30') created by Clémence-Madeleine Perdrillat, starring Camélia Jordana in the lead as a woman who falls madly in love and suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder as a result of a previous painful story. The cast also includes Théo Navarro-Mussy, Corentin Fila, Simon Ehrlacher, Salomé Dewaels, Zoé Schellenberg, Alicia Hava, Estelle Meyer, Zinedine Soualem and Marion Séclin. Antony Cordier and Laure de Butler directed the project, which was produced by Jour Premier Production (a subsidiary of Gaumont).

Also worth mentioning is the four-part documentary Lambert contre Lambert: Au nom de Vincent, which will trace a famous French case at the heart of the debate on the end of life. Conceived by Élodie Buzuel who co-directed it with Vincent Trisolini, and piloted by Zadig Productions, this mini-series will be launched on 10 May on Disney+. And on 5 April, season 2 of the comedy Week-End Family (produced by Elephant International), starring Éric Judor and Daphnée Côté-Hallé, will arrive on the platform.

Finally, beyond the series, Pauline Dauvin reminded us of the two French films in the pipeline for Disney+: the melodrama Une Zone à Défendre by Romain Cogitore (with Lyna Khoudri and François Civil in the lead – piloted by Chi-Fou-Mi Productions) and the action title Antigang: La Relève by Benjamin Rocher (with Alban Lenoir, Jean Reno and Sofia Essaïdi in the cast – an Empreinte Digitale production with SND as co-producer).
