In Leipzig, she meets her pen pal, Lena, a teenager who is eager to become politically involved. Fanny is charmed. To seduce Lena, she invents a life for herself, even to the extent of becoming trapped in her own lies.

Produced by Marie-Ange Luciani for Les Films de Pierre, Foreign Tongue is being co-produced by Arte France Cinéma,
 
Germany’s Razor Film Produktion and Belgian outfit Les Films du Fleuve. The feature, which has been pre-purchased by Canal+ and Ciné+, is also being backed via the CNC’s advance on receipts, Eurimages, the Grand Est region, the Eurométropole de Strasbourg, the Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung and the Cofinova and Cinécap Soficas. The seven-week shoot will take place in Leipzig and Strasbourg with Julien Poupard (nominated for the César Award in his category in 2020 and 2023 for Les misérables [+leggi anche:
