La prima donna a capo della BAFTA

UK producer Hilary Bevan Jones is going to be the first woman to run the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) in its sixty years history.
Bevan Jones will first serve as Deputy Chairman for two years, before becoming Chairman of the Academy after one year in office.

Duncan Kenworthy, the established producer of Four Weddings And a Funeral who will pass on the reigns of the prestigious British annual award ceremony, said about his future successor: «This is very good news for the future of the Academy. Hilary is a major figure in the British independent TV industry, and a key member of our council. I’m particulalry delighted that in a year’s time, the Academy will almost certainly be chaired by a woman for the first time in its sixty year history».

Bevan Jones is joint director of Tightrope Pictures with Paul Abbott. Together they just produced for BBC One and HBO The Girl In The Café written by Richard Curtis (Love Actually [+leggi anche:

) and directed by David Yates (Moll Flanders). The TV drama played by Bill Nighy and Kelly Macdonald will air air on both channels on June 25th. Bevan Jones was also executive producer on BBC’s TV drama , a major adaptation of William Golding’s classic sea trilogy due to be screened on BBC Two in July.

The next BAFTA awards will take place in London on Sunday 19th February 2006.
