Dopo essersi svolto per dieci anni in Germania, a Potsdam, il forum di coproduzione europea Cartoon Movie si terrà in Francia, a Lione, dal 4 al 6 marzo e riunirà 500 professionisti (produttori, distributori, investitori e rivenditori internazionali) provenienti da una trentina di paesi. In un contesto in cui l'animazione europea sta dando regolarmente prova del suo talento artistico e del suo potenziale economico su un mercato mondiale dominato dalle major americane, l'evento ha un ruolo fondamentale: l'80% dei progetti europei realizzati negli ultimi dieci anni sono passati per Cartoon Movie, che ha contribuito a far emergere 130 film di cui 17 hanno superato il milione di entrate.

Tra i lungometraggi e i progetti selezionati per questa 11ma edizione, si distinguono molte produzioni e coproduzioni francesi con le prime immagini della coproduzione franco-italiana Totally Spies di Pascal Jardin (in uscita nelle sale il 22 luglio 2009), i progetti Ernest et Célestine (sceneggiato dallo scrittore Daniel Pennac), Le Jour des Corneilles di Serge Elissalde e Tante Hilda contre Attilem di Jacques-Remy Girerd, ma anche titoli in produzione come La nuit des enfants rois di Antoine Charreyron e Les lascars del duo Albert Pereira Lazaro - Emmanuel Klotz.

L’irlandese Tomm Moore sarà doppiamente protagonista con la proiezione di Brendan and the Secret of Kells [+leggi anche:

scheda film] (coproduzione con la Francia e il Belgio) e la presentazione del suo nuovo progetto Song of the Sea. Da segnalare anche le prime immagini di Panique au Village di Stéphane Aubier (Belgio), la produzione in corso della leggenda vichinga Egill dell'ungherese Aron Gauder, e la proiezione di The Missing Lynx degli spagnoli Manuel Sicilia e Raúl García e del lungometraggio danese The Travel to Saturn di Kresten Vestbjerg Andersen, due film che hanno avuto un grande successo nel loro paese d'origine.
