Krisztina Goda’s third feature, Chameleon [+see also:

film profile], has been selected to represent Hungary in the nomination race for the 2010 Best Foreign Language Film Oscar, to be awarded on March 7 of next year, after the final five nominees are creamed off on February 7.

The selection committee included Csaba Bollók (Association of Hungarian Film Artists), András Muhi (Hungarian Independent Producers Association), Tamás S. Zákonyi (Hungarian Producers Association), Emil Novák (Hungarian Society of Cinematographers) and András Monory-Mész (Hungarian Directors Guild).

Goda first came to attention with the romantic comedy Just Sex and Nothing Else [+see also:

film profile] and the historical epic Children of Glory [+see also:
trailer
film profile], which were the biggest Hungarian hits of 2005 and 2006. Her noirish Chameleon won the Audience Award at the latest Hungarian Film Week.

Starring Ervin Nagy, Gabriella Hámori, Sándor Csányi, János Kulka, Zsolt Trill and Zsolt László, the film was co-written by the director and Reka Divinyi. It centres on a dangerous young man who uses his numerous manipulative talents to seduce disillusioned women and systematically strip them of their money. But when he meets a millionaire’s daughter, a dancer who dreams of returning to the stage after a serious injury, he is confronted with a difficult choice between love and money.

Produced by Gabor Kalomista for Megafilm in co-production with M&M Film, Chameleon received backing from the Motion Picture Public Foundation of Hungary. The film was released domestically in late 2008 by HungariCom, who are also handling international sales.
