Novelist Molina Foix returns to film

by

Eight years after making his directorial debut, Vicente Molina Foix, better known as a novelist, is once again tackling cinema.

Last week, he started shooting in Valencia on his second cinematic foray, El Dios de Madera (“Wooden God”). Produced by Sagrera Audiovisual, Metrojavier and DC Media, the film will be lensed in Valencia and Barcelona.

In 2001, Molina Foix released his debut work, Sagittarius, which, although not a spectacular box office success, caught the attention of critics who were astonished by the writer’s boldness in tackling the film medium.

Written, as is to be expected, by Molina Foix, El Dios de Madera tells the story of two immigrants, the Senegalese Yao and Moroccan Rachid, who arrive in Valencia illegally in search of a better future. Both end up in the house of Rachid’s boyfriend Róber, an attic apartment connected to the floor below, where Róber’s devoutly Catholic mother María Luisa lives. However, the relationship between the four characters will take an unexpected turn.

The film stars well-known actress Marisa Paredes (All About My Mother), alongside young talents Nao Albert, Mamady Diocou and Soufiane Ouaarab.

The film also has backing from TVE and Canal 9, and support from the ICAA (Film and Audiovisual Arts Institute), IVAC (Valencia Audiovisual Institute) and ICIC (Catalan Institute for Cultural Industries).
