Penned by the director, the film centres on 13-year-old Romain (Challal), who suffers from an extremely rare and incurable genetic deficiency: all direct daylight is mortally dangerous to him. He has an unconventional friendship with David (Lindon), the dermatologist who has monitored him since childhood and has been fascinated by his case.

But when the time comes for them to separate, it is a brutal shock. It awakens an unsuspected hunger for life in one, while the other regains a strong will to fight.

The Moon Child is produced by Les Productions Balthazar (who have produced all Gleize’s films). Its budget of around €3.4m includes co-production support from France 3 Cinéma, pre-sales from Canal+ and Ciné Cinéma, €285,000 in backing from the Ile-de-France region and funding from the Aquitaine region.

French distribution and international sales are still under negotiation. The nine-week shoot will take place in Ile-de-France (30 days) and Aquitaine (15 days).
