González Molina turns to teenage audiences again

Director Fernando González Molina has started shooting in Barcelona on his second feature, Tres Metros Sobre el Cielo (“Three Meters Above Heaven”), after his major box office hit Brain Drain [+see also:

, which was the fourth best-performing Spanish film of 2009 with 1.17m viewers.

Although critics were not exactly enthusiastic about his debut feature, González Molina has an undeniable ability to connect with teenage viewers, who are also the target audience of Tres Metros Sobre el Cielo. The film is adapted from Italian writer Federico Moccia’s eponymous novel, which was previously brought to the big screen by an Italian director in 2004.

Headed by María Valverde and Mario Casas, the cast will be a major pulling point, as is usual in this type of production.
