Produced by Eric Névé for Carcharodon in partnership with La Chauve Souris, Truands which will be distributed in France by Mars Distribution and sold internationally by Studio Canal (also co-producer) revealed more detail of the screenplay written by the director. Set in modern-day Paris, the intrigue in this thriller about high crime comes from the pivotal character Claude Corti (Philippe Caubère), 50 years old, one of those rare powerful men doing his business within an arena that covers hustling to drug trafficking, forgery, stolen cars, racketeering and hold-ups. With neither scruples, nor morals, this paranoid violent "godfather" confesses to a professional assassin Franck (Benoît Magimel), an intelligent and efficient neighbour who likes his independence. But Corti, whose girlfriend is played by Béatrice Dalle, is arrested, and spends several months in prison for petty crime, and things start to go off the rail for him. Simple paranoia or the beginning of a conspiracy? Suspicions fall on Hicham and Larbi, a violent ambitious duo who Corti uses without particularly liking them...
