Accorsi filming for Julie Gavras

Starting on the 26th September with a week in the Gironde, filming for La Faute à Fidel directed by Julie Gavras headed to Paris last Monday. Among the cast for this first feature is the Italian star Stefano Accorsi, Julie Depardieu, Nina Kervel, Martine Chevallier and Olivier Perrier. Having worked as assistant director, notably on films made by her father Costa Gavras and Claire Devers, Julie Gavras got herself noticed in 2001 by directing Le Corsaire, Le Magicien, Le Voleur, a documentary about pupils in first year at film school. With La Faute à Fidel, she explores once more the theme of childhood, telling the story of Anna (Nina Kervel), 9, whose peaceful life in Paris and Bordeaux will be upset by her parents (Stefano Accorsi and Julie Depardieu) who become involved in politics, travelling, notably, to Chile. Playing a Spaniard in the film, Italian actor Stefano Accorsi met Sylvie Pialat, the producer of the film, at the recent Festival Premiers Plans at Angers and was seduced by the screenplay written by Julie Gavras who integrates numerous nationalities among her characters, notably Greek, Vietnamese, Chilean, Cubans,...

Produced by Les Films du Worso, La Faute à Fidel had a budget of somewhere between 3,5 and 4 million euros. Supported by the Ile-by-France region to the tune of 365 000 euros, the film was co-produced by Gaumont (with whom the Les Films du Worso have a development deal) who will distribute in France in the second semester of 2006 and who hold all the sales rights (international, video, TV). Shooting ends on the 2nd December after almost 8 weeks in Paris and a detour of two days on the outskirts of Madrid.
