The three Mataharis for Icíar Bollaín

Icíar Bollaín began the principal photography of her fourth feature film Mataharis earlier this week, marking the return of the actress-turned-director, three years after her 8-time Goya winner Take My Eyes [+see also:

Emerging from an industry usually controlled by male filmmakers, Icíar Bollaín has built another tale focused on female characters. "After Take My Eyes, I received several letters from women, suggesting that I talk about how hard it is to reconcile both family and work", explains Bollaín. That was the starting point to a script by Bollaín and Tatiana Rodriguez, in which three detectives – Nawja Nimri (El Metodo), María Vázquez (The Night of the Brother) and Nuria González (El Calentito) – investigate the secrets of others, but end up uncovering their own families’ lies, and truths they would prefer to ignore. Produced by La Iguana and Sogecine, the 8-week shoot for Mataharis is set for Madrid, Peñiscola and GuadalajaraSogepaq will handle local distribution and manage international sales.
