has sold over 100,000 tickets since its Thursday premiere.

Verhoeven's film is his first Dutch-language project in 23 years (read news) and it has been anxiously awaited since it went into production. The thriller Black Book follows Jewish singer Rachel Stein (Carice van Houten) during the last months of WWII and its messy aftermath, as she is instructed to seduce a high German officer with whom she will fall in love (read article).

As is the custom in the Netherlands for films with over 100,000 admissions, Black Book was awarded a Golden Film and was the fastest Dutch film in history to be awarded the honour, according to a spokeswoman of the Dutch Film Festival. It did not set a box office record however, due to an action organised by a large chain of supermarkets that offered the second ticket for free during the weekend.

Distributed by A-Films, Black Book is currently playing on 88 screens and will fly the Dutch flag in the upcoming Best Foreign Language Oscar race.
