StudioCanal launches Paris in Berlin

A few days before the opening of the European Film Market in Berlin, films by Cédric Klapisch, Jean-Jacques Annaud, Matthieu Kassovitz, Wong Kar Wai, Denys Arcand and Emir Kusturica are heading the line-up of French world sales outfit StudioCanal.

The team, helmed by Muriel Sauzay, will start sales on Klapisch’s Paris, which is currently filming (see news) and features Romain Duris, Juliette Binoche, Fabrice Luchini, François Cluzet, Karin Viard, Albert Dupontel, as well as French Shooting Star Mélanie Laurent (see interview).

The outfit also expects to do good business with Annaud’s Her Majesty Minor, starring José Garcia and Vincent Cassel. European territories having bought the title to date include Greece, Bulgaria, Spain, Romania and the Benelux.

Other titles predicted to do well are Canadian director Arcand’s Age of Ignorance (Marc Labrèche, Diane Kruger and Emma de Caunes) – sold to Switzerland, Greece, Italy and Portugal – and Kusturica’s Promise Me This, pre-bought by Switzerland, Greece, Portugal, Eastern Europe and the Benelux countries.

Another jewel in the StudioCanal crown is Kassovitz’s Babylone A.D [+see also:

, featuring Vin Diesel, Michelle Yeoh and Gérard Depardieu (see news). The film has already found distributors in all continental European territories except for Italy.

The Gallic outfit will continue its sales on two Wong Kar Wai films, My Blueberry Nights (Norah Jones, Jude Law, Nathalie Portman, Rachel Weisz and David Strathairn) and Lady from Shanghai (Nicole Kidman).

Other titles in the extensive Berlin line-up from the Canal + subsidiary are Thomas Balmès’ documentary Baby(ies), a production by Alain Chabat that follows one year in the life of five babies on five continents; Bruno Dega and Jeanne Le Guillou’s Détrompez-vous [+see also:

(lit. “Don’t You Believe It”), starring François Cluzet, Mathilde Seigner, Roschdy Zem and Alice Taglioni (see article) and Alexandra Leclère’s Le prix à payer (Christian Clavier, Nathalie Baye, Gérard Lanvin and Géraldine Pailhas).

In the market screenings programme, StudioCanal are hoping to do good business with Jean Becker’s Dialogue avec mon jardinier (lit. “Conversations With My Gardener”), starring Daniel Auteuil and Jean-Pierre Darroussin (see news), which has already been sold in Europe to the Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany, Greece, Italy, the Benelux, Portugal and Romania.
