, which had its press screening this morning before tonight´s official screening in the Panorama section of the Berlinale, was welcomed by a generally entertained media crowd.

One of France’s most international actresses, Delpy, who was nominated for an Oscar for the screenplay of Before Sunset, uses the same premise for her first feature film: a US/French couple in Paris. This fast paced, fast-written, fast-shot (in four weeks) movie set entirely in Paris has a flavor of openness and spontaneity, probably due to the fact that the actress used family and friends in front of and behind the camera.

Delpy plays Marion, a photographer who has been living in the US with American interior designer Jack (Adam Goldberg). The couple tries to re-infuse their relationship with romance by taking a vacation in Europe. Their trip to Venice, narrated by Delpy´s voice-over, is just an interlude to their two days in Paris, which turns into a make-it-or-break-it scenario.

Marion’s overbearing parents, flirtatious ex-boyfriends, language problems and cultural differences are just too much for Jack, who tries to put up a brave face.

And “l’amour”? Zero. Delpy deliberately chose to make a crude, often mean and politically incorrect movie, without romance, unlike Before Sunrise. The tone is light, perhaps too light, but it is precisely because of that lightness, Delpy´s name and an undeniable gift for dialogue that she financed her film in Berlin, exactly a year ago, although only half of the script was ready then.

Two Days in Paris was produced in France by Delpy`s Tempete sous un Crane Productions, together with Polaris Production, in co-production with 3L Film in Germany and support from Back Up Media.

Rezo Films is handling French distribution and international sales.
