Salvatore Mereu’s latest film, Sonetàula [+see also:

, has been selected in the Panorama section of upcoming Berlin Film Festival (February 7-17). Based on the novel by Giuseppe Fiori, the film was shot in the Sardinian language and features non-professional actors.

The story centres on a boy who, in 1930s-40s Sardinia, decides to become an outlaw as an act of defiance after seeing his father sent away to prison for a crime he did not commit.

The new film by the director of Three-Step Dance will be released in Italy on March 7. Shot over 26 weeks, from July 2006 to July 2007, on a budget of over €4m, Sonetàula was produced by Lucky Red and RAI Cinema, in co-production with Belgium, France, Swiss television and with support from the Eurimages fund and the Region of Sardinia.
