Following in the footsteps of his famous father Costa and sister Julie, Romain Gavras launches his directorial career with his debut feature Our Day Will Come, which starts shooting today in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region.

Co-written by the 27-year-old director and Karim Boukercha, Our Day Will Come traces the misadventures of two red-haired men on the road in a search that goes beyond the boundaries of reason. Rejecting their former lives, they dream of taking on a new identity.

As true warriors, they are ready to battle against the world and its moral codes in a journey towards the point of no return. Their aim is to reach Ireland, the promised land of redheads. But madness takes hold of them, forcefully at first, then subtly and deeply.

Co-founder and member of the Kourtrajmé collective, Gavras previously attracted attention with several shorts and music videos. Last year, he sparked media controversy with the video for Stress by French band Justice.

Produced by Eric Névé (for Les Chauves Souris) and Cassel (for 120 Films), Our Day Will Come’ €3.4m budget includes pre-sales from Canal + and Ciné Cinéma, as well as €100,000 in backing from the regional funding body, CRRAV.

The film – whose shoot will take place in Dunkirk and Calais until May 16 – will be lensed by DoP André Chémétoff (Darius Khondji’s nephew). TFM will handle domestic distribution, while TF1 International (also co-producer) will manage international sales.
