Best admissions for local films since 1981

Almost four million Danes have watched a domestic movie at a local cinema this year, a level not seen since 1981, when Danish films garnered 4.1 million admissions, according to the Danish Film Institute.

This record could well be surpassed by the end of the year as three more Danish films are still to open. Today, Little Soldier [+see also:

) produced by Zentropa, is being released by Nordisk Film.

December 19 will see the release of another Zentropa production, Kristian Levring’s drama Fear Me Not, successfully launched at this year’s Toronto and San Sebastian film festivals. The third title scheduled to open is family film Max Pinlig by Lotte Svendsen, released by SF.

A wide variety of films for all age groups have hit the jackpot, proof of the vitality of local films. So far, the top five domestic titles are WWII drama Flame & Citron [+see also:

(667,601 admissions, Sandrew Metronome), the comedy Take the Trash (444,017 admissions, Scanbox), animated film Journey to Saturn (385,976 admissions, Nordisk Film), franchise film Father of Four: Back Home (372,326 admissions, Scanbox) and this year’s Danish Oscar entry, Worlds Apart [+see also:

(314,545 admissions, Nordisk Film).

Last weekend, according to bio-tal, five Danish films were in the top ten: Terribly Happy [+see also:
