Scorcese introduces De Seta to the USA

by

‘An amazing documentary full of good surprises’. This is how Martin Scorsese defined Detour De Seta, a documentary which according to him reveals the talent of its director, Salvo Cuccia.
This film, which bears witness to the great art of one of Italy’s best film-makers, Vittorio De Seta, will be presented to the American public by the Oscar-winner himself on two different occasions this April : on the 9th, at the Full Frame Festival (the biggest documentary festival in the USA), and on the 23d, at the Tribeca Film Festival Robert De Niro created in New-York.

As a matter of fact, many festivals are screening Detour De Seta this Spring: on the 15th of March, it was shown in Paris for the Ethnographic Film Panorama ; it was also selected for the 57th International Film Festival in Locarno in the ‘Contemporary Film-makers’ section, the International Meetings around documentary film in Montreal, the Festival dei Popoli, Filmmaker, and many other European festivals.

Detour De Seta was made and promoted thanks to European funds : the recent acquisition and restoration of De Seta’s documentaries undertaken by the Filmoteca Regionale Siciliana and the access to funds from the EU (P.O.R. programme 2000-2006) allowed Sicily to make this tribute to the Italian master born in Palermo. It is the first time a public organisation has produced films that way. The project also owes a lot to the support of the production and distribution company Palomar-Endemol.
