The Eurimages jury, composed of Jonas Dornbach, Tamara Tatishvili and Bart van Langendonck, underlined the high quality and diversity of the projects at the MIA-Cinema Co-Production Market at this year’s MIA - International Audiovisual Market in Rome (17-21 October), as they handed the €20,000 2018 Eurimages Development Award to Nightsiren [+see also:

, directed by Tereza Nvotova and produced by Milos Lochman for Moloko Film. They had the following to say in their motivation: “It elevates a traditional story to a credible contemporary setting with a distinctive cinematographic language, following the journey of the two female protagonists on the brink of reality and myth.”

A number of other awards were also handed out at the 2018 MIA. The Lazio Frames Cinema Award was awarded to Bangla by Phaym Bhuiyan, produced by Fandango and TIMVision Production. The ARTE Kino International Award for the films selected in the MIA-Cinema section went to Domina Maris by Silvia Perra, produced by Luca Cabriolu. The Lazio Frames TV Series Award went to Il nome della Rosa by Giacomo Battiato, produced by 11 Marzo Film, Palomar and Tele Munchen International GmbH. The National Geographic Award for Best Pitch at the MIA-DOC 2018 went to Jérémy Leroux’s Vibrato, staged by Day For Night Productions.

The seventh edition of the Carlo Bixio Award, promoted by APTRTI and Rai, handed out the following prizes: the Carlo Bixio Award offered by SIAE went to L’oro di Achille by Elio Penna, Giuseppe Maria Martino and Armando Francesco Serrano; the Carlo Bixio Award for Best Concept, from Rai, went to Redemption by Matteo Ferri; and the Best Screenplay Award was bestowed upon Bordello Chiaia by Laura Grimaldi and Pietro Seghetti.
