Adapted by the director together with Fanny Chesnel from her novel Le berceau, the script centres on Joseph who learns that his son and the latter’s partner have just died in an accident. They were expecting a child via a surrogate mother in Belgium. What will become of their future baby? Is Joseph its legitimate grandfather? Carried by the promise of this birth, which in some way lengthens his son’s existence, Porté par la promesse de cette naissance qui va prolonger l’existence de son fils, the sixty-something father goes to meet the fierce and indomitable young Flemish woman…

Produced by François Kraus and Denis Pineau-Valencienne for Les Films du Kiosque, La petite is co-produced by France 2 Cinéma, SND (which is also in charge of French distribution and international sales) and Belgium’s Umedia. Pre-bought by Canal+, Ciné+ and France Télévisions, the feature film also benefits from the support of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region and of the Gironde department. Filming will take place until 23 September in Bordeaux and surroundings, as well as in Ghent, with Yves Cape as Director of Photography.
