(Las aventuras de Tadeo Jones) swiftly made it to the top of the box office at the end of is first weekend out in cinemas, making about €3m. Tad's release last Friday coincided with the implementation of a VAT increase on cinema tickets. This factor, combined with a new film character, meant that few expected the film to do so exceptionally well, despite Telecinco (who co-produced the film with Ikiru Films, El Toro Pictures, Lightbox Entertainment, and Telefónica Producciones)'s great effort to promote the film on television.

Yet Tad (Tadeo Jones in Spanish) isn't actually such a new character. In 2004 y 2007, he was the main character in two shorts made by Gato, Tadeo Jones and Tadeo Jones and the Basement of Doom for which he won two Goya awards (in 2006 and 2008 respectively).

In his first feature, Tad, a dreamy mason, is mistaken for a famous archeologist and sent off on expedition to Peru. With the help of his loyal dog Jeff, an intrepid female professor, a mute parrot, and a go-getter, they will try to save the Inca's legendary lost city from an evil corporation of treasure hunters.

The film's French international sales agency StudioCanal has already sold its right to half the world. In Europe, the film has been acquired for Germany (Atlas), Italy (Eagle), Eastern Europe (SPI), Belgium (Belga Films), and Switzerland (Impulse). Outside Europe, it is to be distributed in Russia (Atlas) and China (Leomus), where, according to the film's producer Edmon Roch, it should be screened on over 2,500 screens.
