Written by the director with Belgian filmmaker Philippe Blasband, the screenplay focuses on Marie Heurtin, who was born deaf and blind in 1895 and incapable of communicating. Despite the advice of a doctor who believes she is “dumb”, her father, a humble artisan, cannot bring himself to commit her to an asylum. Out of despair, he goes to the Larnay Institute near Poitiers, where nuns take care of deaf young women. Despite the scepticism of the Mother Superior, a young nun, Sister Marguerite, sets out to take care of the “little wild animal” and do everything she can to bring her out of her darkness. She will succeed, in spite of some failures and the temptation of discouragement, armed with her joyous faith and love for young Marie.

Prize of the Critics’ Week in Cannes in 1996 with Les aveux de l’innocent, Jean-Pierre Améris also won the Best Director Award in San Sebastian in 2001 with C’est la vie, was selected at the Certain Regard in Cannes in 2004 with Poids léger and out of competition in Venice in 2012 with The Man who Laughs [+see also:

Pre-purchased by Ciné+, the movie, in filming until September 13th in the Ain and Isère regions, will be distributed in France by Diaphana and sold internationally by Indie Sales Company.
