Kadir Balci marries Turkish and Flemish communities in Trouw met mij

On January 13, the filming began for the new feature by Kadir Balci, Trouw met mij (Marry Me). Jurgen Vindevogel and Sibel Koç are madly in love and plan on getting married. It would all work out perfectly if their families didn’t get involved. Trouw met mij is described as “a comedy on fries and baklava, the exchange of vows and exchanges in general, Flemish restraint and Oriental extraversion”. The film is produced by Dries Phlypo and Jean-Claude Van Rijckeghem (A Private View), and coproduced by Marion Hänsel (Man’s Films). The filming will take place entirely in the areas surrounding Gand until February 14.

This is Kadir Balci’s second film after Turquaze (2010), which followed the return to Belgium of three brothers of Turkish origin who just buried their father in Istanbul. A story about grief, exile, memory, but also integration and the blending in of communities. At the heart of this film too was a love story between the hero, one of the three brothers, and a Flemish young woman. Some of these motifs are therefore found again in Trouw met mij, with notably the director’s brother, Burak Balci, the hero of Turquaze, who plays a supporting role in this movie. In the lead roles, we find two recent newcomers, Dries De Sutter and Sirin Zahed.
