Five new titles have been added to Kinology’s line-up (the Paris-based international sales agent headed by Grégoire Melin), on the eve of the kick-off of the European Film Market at the 64th Berlinale (6-16 February 2014). Notable among them is the highly anticipated Eden by Mia Hansen-Love (read the article – with a cast that includes Félix de Givry, Pauline Etienne, Vincent Macaigne, the American Greta Gerwig, Golshifteh Farahani, Laura Smet and Vincent Lacoste), which will be finished at the end of 2014.

Also featuring in the line-up is Next Time I'll Aim For the Heart by Cédric Anger, with Guillaume Canet and Ana Girardot heading up the cast (read the article). This feature is inspired by “the case of the Oise murderer” and follows the story of a police officer who is investigating his own crimes.

Another new addition is the Franco-Belgian-Italian documentary Cartoonist: Foot Soldiers of Democracy by Valérie Valloatto, a film produced by Radu Mihaileanu (Oï Oï Oï Productions) and Cyrille Blanc (Cinextra Productions). This title, which involved the collaboration of the illustrator Plantu, recounts the misfortunes of 11 cartoonists entrenched in a fight for freedom of expression.

Also of note is 24 Days by Alexandre Arcady, which has brought the tragic story of Ilan Halimi to the big screen; he was kidnapped, held prisoner, tortured and eventually killed in a Parisian suburb in 2006 by a gang known as the “Gang des Barbares”. The cast includes Zabou Breitman, Pascal Elbé, Jacques Gamblin, Eric Caravaca and Sylvie Testud. The French release date is 30 April.

Also appearing in the Kinology line-up is the first Iranian western, A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night by Ana Lily Amirpour, an American production that was unveiled at Sundance and whose executive producers include Elijah Wood.

At the Berlin market, Kinology will screen the 3D documentary Land of the Bears by Guillaume VincentUne nouvelle vie by Emmanuel Mouret and the Franco-Chinese co-production The Nightingale by Philippe Muyl.

Lastly, the line-up also includes several films in post-production, such as the horror film Cub by Belgian Jonas Govaerts and G.H.B. by Laetitia Masson (read the article – produced by Mirwais and with a cast that includes Marina Hands, Clémence Poésy and Elodie Bouchez). And we mustn’t neglect to mention other projects that are in production, such as the documentary Hurricane and the animated environmental sci-fi feature Mune, among others.
