, a Polish-Danish co-production that will have its world premiere on 13 February in the Generation 14plus section of the 64th Berlinale (6-16 February 2014). Heading up the cast in the two lead roles are the young newcomers Eliza Rycembel and Mateusz Wieclawek. They are joined by renowned actors such as Dawid Ogrodnik, Andrzej Chyra, Jowita Budnik and Bartlomiej Topa.

Anna Kazejak made her début with the omnibus Ode to Joy, a portrayal of the generation being shaped in a post-communist world, which she directed together with Jan Komasa and Maciej Migas. In 2010, her début fiction feature as a solo filmmaker, Flying Pigs, also tackled adolescence through the story of would-be football supporters. In The Word, she dramatises the world of adolescents, big-city high schools, and a generation that communicates via Skype and Facebook. Central to the plot is a couple in love, who split up following a betrayal. This leads to terrible consequences...

“During the research stage for the screenplay, we looked at the phenomenon of the crimes that young people commit. The story is based on true events, but it is not a faithful copy of reality. It is simultaneously a film about adolescence, a tale of crime and a psychological drama,” explains Anna Kazejak, who wrote the screenplay with Swede Magnus von Horn (who studied at the Lodz Film School and lives in Warsaw).
