and who also co-wrote the script for Bird People by Pascale Ferran), Des Apaches’ story focuses on Samir, a 30-year-old who has just lost his mother. At the cemetery he comes across a stranger – his father. This encounter will disrupt his life by bringing his past and his childhood to the surface in a most unusual way. By discovering his father, Samir unwittingly finds himself mixed up in a family affair that plunges him deep into the heart of the Kabyle population of Belleville and all its traditions. He then has to face up to his decisions. By freeing himself from his childhood and his clan, Samir grows up and becomes a free man – an "Apache".

Produced by Alexandra Henochsberg for Ad Vitam Production, Des Apaches is benefitting from co-production by France 3 Cinéma, a pre-purchase by Canal+, an advance on receipts and backing from the CNC’s “Images de la diversité” fund, as well as support from Sofica Manon and Palatine Etoile. The eight weeks of shooting will finish on 30 April and will take place almost entirely in the streets of Belleville in Paris, apart from two days in Kabylie to finish off the shoot. Distribution in France will be handled directly by Ad Vitam, and international sales are still being negotiated. In fact, this is the second feature to be produced by Ad Vitam (which is in a very strong position in the French independent distribution sector), following Going South [+see also:
