"This year’s line-up is packed with really strong portraits of young people, and that is exactly what Flow is – it provides a truthful, captivating and intelligent insight into a milieu we know, but do not really know," said festival director Jacob Neiiendam, of CPH PIX.

An Iraqui refugee, Ahmad was born in Czechoslovakia and came to Denmark in 1986. Educated at the alternative film school Super16, he has been making shorts since 2007 and won first prizes at Denmark’s Salaam.dk (Nice to Meet You - 2006) and the Gulf Film Festival (Mesopotamia - 2006). After being selected for Berlin, his Megaheavy (2010) won the top prize at Odense and received the Danish Robert Award.

Flow follows the story of Michael (Gilli), who lives in a housing project where he and his friends make music together. Clearly the biggest talent in the group, he is discovered by the established rapper Apollo and becomes his ghostwriter. However, moving on without his friends breaks the unwritten rule of loyalty.

Scripted by Anders Ølholm, the Morten Kjems Juhl and Nina Bisgaard production for Beofilm-Meta Film will be released domestically by UIP-Mis. Label on 8 May. It is also the festival’s only Danish contender for the €15,000 New Talent Grand PIX Award, with another nine first-time directors yet to be announced.
