), it is now Portuguese director Miguel Gomes’ turn to join the programme of the 47th Directors’ Fortnight, which will unspool at the 68th Cannes Film Festival (13-24 May 2015). There, the filmmaker will present Arabian Nights [+see also:

(read the article), a tale in three instalments (The Restless One, The Desolate One and The Enchanted One), whose running time (of over six hours) apparently ruled it out of taking part in the Cannes official competition, according to rumours.

Funded by Portugal (40% - O Som e furia), France (38% - Shellac Sud as producer and distributor in France, Agat Films acting as associate producer, and Arte France Cinéma as co-producer), Germany (12% - Komplizen Film) and Switzerland (11% - Box Productions) for a budget of €3.07 million, Arabian Nights was also supported by the CNC’s Aide aux Cinémas du monde, the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region and the Eurimages fund. International sales are handled by Match Factory.

The complete selection of the 2015 Directors’ Fortnight will be unveiled on Tuesday 21 April, at the Forum des Images in Paris.
