film profile] by Ildikó Enyedi is virtually in the can, as there are now only a few days of filming remaining, scheduled for next winter. This is the fifth fiction feature film by the director, who won the Caméra d'Or at Cannes in 1989 for My 20th Century and who then directed The Magic Hunter (in competition at Venice in 1994), Tamas and Juli (in competition at Venice in 1997) and Simon the Magician (in competition at Locarno in 1999) before turning her attention to television when she directed the Hungarian version of the HBO series In Treatment.

For her return to the big screen, the filmmaker has chosen the romantic melodrama genre and has assembled a cast including Géza Morcsányi, Szandra Borbély, Zoltán Schneider, Ervin Nagy, Tamás Jordán, Zsuzsa Járó, Réka Tenki, Julia Nyakó and Itala Békés.

Written by Ildikó Enyedi, the plot, which tells an unusual love story set in the everyday world, is based around the duality of sleeping and waking, mind and matter. "What would happen if you met someone who dreamt the same as you or, to be more precise, had been meeting you in the same world every night for years? Would you be pleased? Or would you feel that you had been in some way robbed? And what if this specific individual didn’t exactly appeal to you? What if you actually hated that person?" 

Produced by Mónika Mécs, András Muhi and Ernő Mesterházy for Inforg-M&M Film, On Body and Soul is benefiting from backing from the Hungarian Film Fund. Distribution in Hungary and international sales are still being negotiated.
