French sales agent Memento Films International can boast a five-star line-up at the 18th Rendez-Vous with French Cinema in Paris (14-18 January – read the article). The team headed up by Emilie Georges and managed by Tanja Meissner is launching pre-sales for The Salesman [+see also:

, the seventh feature by Iranian director Asghar Farhadi, who has such titles as About Elly (winner of the Best Director Award at Berlin in 2009), A Separation (winner of the Golden Bear at the 2011 Berlinale and the Oscar for Best Foreign-language Film in 2012) and The Past [+see also:

(winner of the Best Actress Award at Cannes in 2013) to his credit. Memento, a trusted partner of the filmmaker’s, will co-produce his new opus (with production being handled by the director’s own company), the plot of which is being kept under wraps. It has been announced as being in production (with a cast including Taraneh Aliddosti and Shahab Hosseni) and will be ready next spring.

Written by the director, the story revolves around a very gifted and extremely conscientious midwife who sees her late father’s extravagant and light-minded ex-wife reappear in her life, 30 years after she went missing. Produced by Fidélité Films/Curiosa Films, the feature will be co-produced by France 3 Cinéma and Belgian outfit Versus. It should start shooting next spring.

Next week, at the Sundance Film Festival (21-31 January 2016), Memento will have an ace up its sleeve when The Free World by Jason Lee is unveiled in the US Dramatic Competition section; the US production stars Boyd Holbrook, Elisabeth Moss and Octavia Spencer.
