30/05/2016 - Buyers and producers will get the chance to discover projects at an early stage

The new Eurimages Lab Project Award, a pitching session, a presentation of documentary projects and a screenwriting platform are just some of the industry events that Hugo Rosák, head of the Film Industry Office, will be presenting at the 51st Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (KVIFF) from 3-6 July this year.

The Industry Days will kick off with a panel discussion on European cinema and film literacy that is being organised by the LUX Prize and the Creative Europe Desk CZ, in partnership with the KVIFF and Europa Distribution. A discussion about education and audience development will follow on Monday 4 July. Several case studies will then demonstrate the different approaches to film education in various European countries. The same day, filmmakers from Central and Eastern Europe will present eight new films selected for the Works in Progress programme. And for the first time, the Eurimages Lab Project Award will be given to the most promising experimental film project. 

On the Tuesday, foreign co-producers will get the chance to take a closer look at selected Czech and Slovakian film projects at various stages of development. The Pitch & Feedback session is being organised by the Czech Film Center, the Slovak Film Institute and the KVIFF. Furthermore, the Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival will present feature-length documentary projects from Central and Eastern Europe that are in production or post-production, with a theatrical distribution set for between August 2016 and July 2017. 

In addition, renowned experts from the Sundance Institute and the Sundance Filmmakers Lab, such as Paul Federbush and Gyula Gazdag, will serve as script consultants at the Midpoint screenwriting workshop, which will focus on feature-film projects in early development. The four-day event is aimed at experienced teams of writers and producers from Central and Eastern Europe, the Balkans, Turkey and the countries of the former Soviet Union.
