ArteKino Festival: Ten European films available digitally – for free

"To reassert Arte's increasingly European dimension, support creation and offer an innovative initiative in a digital format." These are the aims of the first edition of the ArteKino Festival, which will offer internet users from 44 European countries the chance to watch ten European feature films for free over a ten-day period (30 September-9 October 2016). According to Olivier Père (Arte France's director of cinema and the artistic director of this first-of-its-kind festival), these movies are "symbolic of today's European cinema, and they stand out thanks to their beauty, audacity and originality". Unveiled and popular at Cannes, Venice, Berlin, Locarno, Rotterdam and Sundance, these recent works will benefit from increased visibility through the dedicated site artekinofestival.com (developed in partnership with the Festival Scope platform). The spectacular line-up includes titles by Spaniard Albert Serra, Austria's Ulrich Seidl, Italy's Pietro Marcello and Alessandro Comodin, Germany's Nicolette Krebitz, Portugal's João Nicolau, Serbia's Mirjana Karanovic, France's Sébastien Laudenbach and Philippe Faucon, and Greece's Argyris Papadimitropoulos.

Cineuropa, partner of the ArteKino Festival, is offering film enthusiasts from all over the world the opportunity to see the films. Just register here by 29 September to be in with a chance of being one of the lucky cinephiles who will get access to each film. Every film will be accessible for free, after the viewer has made a reservation, with a maximum of 5,000 viewers per screening and a system allowing the “tickets” to be put back on sale if the reservation has not been honoured five days after the screening opens. Reservations are already open, and as a bonus, the selection of ten films will be available in four subtitled versions (French, German, English and Spanish).

A Nespresso Audience Award, worth €50,000, will be handed to the movie awarded the highest mark by the viewers.
