The Cyprus Film Days International Festival, the largest international film event in the country, has wrapped its 15th edition. The Best Film Award in the main international competition programme, Glocal Images, went to local director Adonis Florides for his film Rosemarie [+see also:

, “for its masterful and nuanced tragic-comic portrayal of a man torn between art and reality”. It should be noted that this is the first time in the history of the festival that a Cypriot film has won the main award. The director received the €6,000 prize during the awards ceremony, which was held at the Rialto Theatre in Limassol.

The international jury, headed up by acclaimed cinematographer Phil Méheux and comprising film critic Massimo Lechi, director Renārs Vimba, actress Evangelia Andreadaki and director Kyriacos Tofarides, also handed Italian director Edoardo De Angelis the Special Jury Award for his film Indivisible [+see also:

. The €3,000 award was presented to the movie for “the director’s original visual approach to storytelling, which combines anthropology and surrealism, and for the memorable performances by Angela and Marianna Fontana”.

Finally, the last of the main jury’s trophies, the Best Director Award, which comes with €1,000 in cash as well as a DCP Mastering, Deliverables and Subtitling Award worth €3,500 in technical services, sponsored by Authorwave, went to Bulgarian director Ralitza Petrova for her well-travelled Godless [+see also:

, “for the bleak and unsettling depiction of human beings who are prisoners of a corrupt society, and for the daring and stark mise-en-scène”.

The jury also handed out three Special Mentions: to Italian saxophonist Enzo Avitabile for the soundtrack of Indivisible, and to Makis Papadimitriou and Elli Tringou for their performances as the lead actors in Suntan [+see also:

The other Cypriot film that was selected in the main competition, Petros Charalambous’ debut feature, Boy on the Bridge [+see also:

, received the Audience Award, which is accompanied by the sum of €1,000, while the Israeli film Harmonia by Ori Sivan received the University of Nicosia Student Jury Award.

The Cyprus Film Days International Festival is dedicated exclusively to contemporary world cinema, and the feature films were selected by a three-member artistic committee comprising Dr Costas Constandinides, director Tonia Mishiali and director-producer Marios Stylianou. The 15th edition of the festival ran from 27 April–6 May in the cities of Limassol and Nicosia, and it is an initiative of the Cultural Services of the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Rialto Theatre in Limassol.
