BERLINALE 2012 Italy

Berlinale, Daniele Vicari Diaz’s in Panorama Special

by

Daniele Vicari’s Diaz - Don't Clean Up this Blood has been selected to the Panorama Special section of the Berlin Film Festival, taking place February 9-19.

Produced by Fandango together with France’s Le Pacte and Romania’s Mandragora Movies, the film recounts the night of July 21 2001, when 400 police officers raided the Diaz school in Genoa, injuring several nonviolent activists in town for the G8. Amnesty International called it "the most serious suspension of democratic rights in a Western country after the second world war".

Starring Claudio Santamaria, Jennifer Ulrich, Elio Germano, Davide Iacopini and Ralph Amoussou, Diaz is based on the testimonies and court proceedings, which condemned 25 out of the 27 charged, including those at the top of the security forces’ command chain. The Supreme Court finally acquitted the former Police Chief and former head of Genoa’s Digos (the antiterrorist unit) of having instigated false testimony in November 2011.

It is expected to be released in Italian cinemas on March 2, 2012.
