He describes his work as "a universal story of a young man who saves the life of the mother trough lies, building up a little world that represents a big faith".
A story with the fall of the Berlin Wall and the reunification of Germany as a background, that for Becker can be understood and appreciated both by an audience outside Germany, and by all the "east Berliners who feel a desire to remember things as used to be, looking backwards to the times when they thought everything was better. Before finding out that not everything in the West was gold".
