Gaumont launches presales for Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s T.S.Spivet

which it sold all over the world, French international sales company Gaumont will be well armed at the 62th Berlinale’s European Film Market from February 9 to 19. Cécile Gaget’s team will notably unveil for the first time worldwide The Chef by Daniel Cohen, starring Jean Reno et Michael Youn, at the opening of the festival’s Culinary Cinema section, and British production Pusher by Spanish director Luis Prieto, a remake of the cult feature film by Danish director Nicolas Winding Refn, who was executive producer on the film.

Gaumont will also launch the presales of T.S. Spivet, the seventh feature film by Jean-Pierre Jeunet, of Amélie [+see also:

and A Very Long Engagement fame. With a screenplay adapted by Guillaume Laurant from the novel The Selected Works of T.S. Spivet by Rief Larsen, this 3D English-language Epithète Films production will start shooting in late 2012. The screenplay recounts the misadventures of a 12 year old scientific genius. He lives in Montana with his parents when out of the blue he receives an invitation to the Smithsonian Institute in Washington D.C., who don’t know he is a child, because he has won the the famous Baird Prize for his machine in perpetual motion. He decides to hop on a freight train on his own to pick up his prize, starting an adventure trek across America.

Sales for the thriller Paris Countdown by Edgar Marie will also start. The film is to be produced by LGM Productions and shooting will kick off in April featuring Jacques Gamblin and Olivier Marchal. They will play nightclub owners who have known each other for years but who have lost touch, until they have to join forces again to save their businesses when a psychopath bent on revenge comes back from Mexico where they had sent him to prison.

Also worth mentioning in the Gaumont line-up of new titles are Camille Rewinds by Noémie Lvovsky (read the article), The Dandelions by Carine Tardieu starring Agnès Jaoui, Isabelle Carré, Denis Podalydès, and Isabella Rossellini (article), Paulette by Jérôme Enrico (article), and the comedy Porn in the Hood) by Franck Gastambide.

Finally, sales are ongoing for two promising films in production: Anne Fontaine’s adaptation of the novel The Grandmothers by Doris Lessing featuring Naomi Watts and Robin Wright, as well as Danish production Only God Forgives by Nicolas Winding Refn with Ryan Gosling and Kristin Scott-Thomas, for which the sales are shared with Wild Bunch.
