11 titles competing at the 11th Tofifest

Traditionally qualified by the Polish media as an “insolent or rebellious festival”, the Tofifest will offer more than 100 films from around the world during its 11th edition, which will take place from October 21 -27 in Toruń. The programme features four competitions along with retrospectives (one on new Romanian cinema amongst others).

"Tofifest is known for its programme offering films which don’t fit in the usual categories, character-full productions that don’t seek conformism. The main showcase in the Official Competition On Air 2013 which brings together carefully selected films, the majority of which were never released in Poland,” explained Jaroslaw Jaworski, the festival’s spokesperson, to Cineuropa.

Tofifest awards four main prizes: the Grand Prix Golden Angel rewards the Best Film of the Official Competition, the second Angel goes to the Best Short Film, the third as part of the “From Poland” section and finally the last Angel goes to productions of the Kuyavian-Pomeranian region where the festival takes place. Awards for the entirety of their career will be given to Polish filmmaker Krzysztof Zanussi and Slovakian director Martin Sulik. It is also worth noting that actress Magdalena Berus will receive a prize for “artistic insolence”, just like filmmakers Kazimierz Kutz and Malgorzata Szumowska. Finally, cinematographer Jacek Szymczak and director Dawid Marcinkowski will be honoured with special distinctions given to artists associated with the region.
